Bringing Restoration

A Job Well Done

Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out his hand,Or in his disaster therefore cry out for help?” Job 30:24
We see devastation on the news every day. Whether it be tornadoes, forest fires, floods, earthquakes, you name it. Personally, since I have never had to experience the horror of being in the midst of one of those tragedies, seeing them on TV doesn’t really phase me. Michigan has always seemed a safe zone for me, like we’re in a bubble that cannot be punctured. All the terrible tragedies happen in other states and countries. Such naïve thinking happened two weeks ago when a storm blew through Flint. Rain poured, hail came down, and all I could think was “My poor car.” Only realizing later that a few miles up the road, trees were being uprooted, property was being destroyed, and some took shelter in their basements truly afraid of the storm.
We as a 180 team were given the opportunity to serve a man affected by the storm. 70+ trees surrounding his house fell. Although six fell on his garage (causing minimal damage) shockingly none touched his home. Once we heard about what happened we loaded up a small crew and set out to help in what ways we could. For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13 There was a lot of hiking up hills to haul away branches to burn, as well as moving larger logs, and raking up the small brush. Our goal was to bring glory to God and also to share Christ’s love through our service with a man who has not yet accepted the truth of the gospel.
I’m sure the 180 leaders were so proud of the hard work put forth by the teens. Everyone worked well as a unit and served with attitudes that reflected Christ. I am so blessed to be a part of a team who seek to minister to the souls of our young people while still having a focus on service.

Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11
